The Greensboro Tennis Foundation opened the GTP School in 2013 with 7 student-athletes. Using on-line based learning, with dedicated teachers in the classroom, the students are receiving an excellent education while gaining the time and flexibility to train and develop as tennis players. Since its inception, the school has grown tremendously. The school has 23 full-time students currently enrolled for the 2017-2018 year.
Each student in the GTP School has a primary coach/mentor who oversees training, academics and tournament scheduling. Individualized performance plans are developed for each student athlete as well and may cover such topics as diet and nutrition, time management, academic and tennis goals. Students in the GTP School have a rigorous schedule of on-court instruction, match play, physical fitness training, academic studies and tournament travel. In order to stay in the program, students must maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
Our GTP students travel to many tournaments together as well. GTP fosters a team environment and each student-athlete and coach is a key member of the team. Because tennis can be an isolating sport, it is important to give our athletes a sense of community and a team that stands behind them.
Our GTP student athletes have succeeded both on and off the court!
